Adding a Cat to Catboard

How to add a cat to Catboard, edit their profile, and track their weight and body condition over time.

Adding a cat

To add a cat, use the "Add Cat" option in your Catboard sidebar. This first step only asks for a few basic details to get your cat's profile started:

  • Photo - a picture of your cat
  • Name
  • Age - in years or months (you can switch to an exact birth date later)
  • Activity level - low, normal (default), or high
  • Goal - maintain weight (default), lose weight, or gain weight
  • Sterilized - a simple toggle

That's all you need to get started. You can fill in more details afterward, as described below.

There's no limit on how many cats you can add to Catboard.

Editing a cat's details

Once a cat has been added, you can open their profile by clicking their avatar. This gives you access to more detailed information, organized into a few areas.

Basic info

Here you can update the details you entered when adding the cat, and fill in a few more:

  • Breed - chosen from a predefined list
  • Exact birth date - if you only entered an age range when adding the cat, you can switch to a precise birth date here
  • Sex

Cat profiles can't be deleted at this time. The ability to remove a cat profile is planned for a future update.

Weight tracking

This tab lets you track your cat's weight over time.

  • Add as many weight entries as you like, including entries for past dates
  • Delete any entry you no longer need
  • Set a target weight goal, and update it whenever needed
  • View your cat's weight history as a list and as a chart, with your goal shown as a marker on the chart so you can track progress toward it

Keeping an eye on your cat's weight is one of the simplest ways to monitor their overall health. To learn more about healthy weight ranges and why they matter, see our guide to healthy cat weight.

Body Condition Score (BCS) tracking

This tab lets you record and track your cat's Body Condition Score over time, alongside their weight.

To add a new BCS check, you'll go through a short 3-step wizard:

  1. Side view - compare your cat's side profile against reference images and descriptions
  2. Top view - compare your cat's shape from above against reference images and descriptions
  3. Feel the ribs - choose from a set of textual options describing how easily you can feel your cat's ribs

Based on your answers, Catboard calculates a BCS for your cat and adds it to their record. You can view all past checks as a list and as a chart, and remove any check you no longer want. You can add as many checks as you like.

BCS is a useful complement to weight tracking, as it reflects your cat's body composition rather than just their weight on a scale. To learn more about what BCS is and how to assess it, see our guide to Body Condition Score.
